Nottingham Forest set to sign Daniel Muñoz as he joins most expensive Over-30 transfers ever

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace, making the Colombian one of the most expensive players over the age of 30 in history. Forest will pay a €25.7 million fee for the 30-year-old, with a further €2.3m due to be paid in add-ons, per Fabrizio Romano.

Muñoz is due to sign a three-year contract with the Premier League side after agreeing personal terms, with a medical set for next week. Forest head coach Oliver Glasner, who worked with the player from 2023 to 2026 before leaving Selhurst Park in June, has been keen to reunite with the defender since taking charge at the City Ground earlier this summer and fought off competition from Everton.

Muñoz has developed into one of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League since joining the South London outfit in 2023 for a modest €8m fee. Palace will be tripling the return on their initial investment and already have a replacement, with Óscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu signing on a free transfers.

Most expensive over-30 transfers ever

As for Forest, they are paying a premium for a defender considering the other names who moved for large fees in their twilight years. He will move into the top 10 most expensive transfers involving Premier League clubs for players over the age of 30.

Top of the list is Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich for €95m in 2023. In fact, the top-10 involves at least one Premier League club in every transfer, with Casemiro's €70m switch to Manchester United second and Rodri's move to Barcelona third.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mané and Romelu Lukaku all join them after sealing moves away from England, with West Ham flop Niclas Füllkrug eighth before Muñoz takes ninth spot. Sharing 10th are Marko Arnautovic - who signed for Shanghai SIPG for €25m - and João Cancelo after his Al-Hilal switch for €25m in 2025.
