Nicolas Jackson could smash record - Aston Villa's most expensive signings ranked
Aston Villa have signed Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. After returning from an underwhelming loan at Bayern Munich, Jackson is surplus to requirements under Xabi Alonso. Atlético Madrid and Newcastle United have been linked with Jackson but Villa have won the race to sign the Senegalese forward. In its entirety, the deal meets Chelsea's asking price of €75m. Villa will receive an initial £47.5m (€55.5m). The deal will include add-ons that will see the entire package of the transfer grow to £65m (€75m).
The fee is almost double the 25-year-old’s €40m market value on Transfermarkt, with Unai Emery determined to reunite with Jackson, after working with him at Villarreal. Morgan Rogers moved to Chelsea from Villa for €138m already this summer, with Alejandro Garnacho moving in the opposite direction on loan, but UEFA won’t intervene in the deal, despite their 45-day guideline that prevents two clubs completing multiple deals in a short period.

The total fee Aston Villa will pay for Jackson, once bonuses are met, will be a club record. Villa broke their transfer record earlier this summer with the €60m acquisition of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg. Any permanent fee for Jackson will eclipse the cost of Manzambi and become a club record fee. Villa have lost numerous experienced star players this summer but another summer addition ranks sixth in João Gomes. The Midlands club’s third most expensive signing is Amadou Onana’s €59.4m arrival from Everton in 2024, and there could be more entries into the top ten before the transfer window closes.
